Vietnamese Garden Pottery: How Much to Order, What Styles to Stock, and When to Receive

Table of Contents

Successful pottery merchandising comes down to selecting styles that move quickly in your market, ordering the right quantities, and timing your deliveries to hit before peak selling season. This guide walks you through each factor so you can maximize turnover and profit, while minimizing dead stock.

Timing

Understanding the perfect time to order allows for your stock to come in just in time for your business to enter new products into your system, organize displays, and add pricing labels in time for seasonal rushes. Smart businesses anticipate busy months and work backwards to predict production, shipping, and organizational time.

From our experience, containers should arrive before March, as many garden centers see an increase in business during the spring gardening season. One notable exception is Florida, where garden centers during the winter months see more business due to seasonal migration to escape the winter cold. Because of this, containers to Florida should arrive before October in order to give businesses proper time to prepare for winter rushes.

Businesses need to also take into account production and shipping times from Vietnam to their destination, which will vary depending on location in the U.S. As of Jan 2026, prod time is 3 months, and once your order ships from Vietnam, transit times vary significantly by destination port:

West Coast

~3-4 weeks

East Coast

~6 weeks

Port of Houston

~5 weeks

Further Inland

~5-6 weeks

As an example, a business looking to order to California would expect their order arriving in mid-February to take 3 months for production, and another 3-4 weeks for shipping, meaning that they should place their order around September to early October, accounting for delays as well. However, a business on the East Coast would have to place their order a little earlier to account for the longer shipping times. Colors

Across many markets, some colors have stood out as safe, strong performers that sell well no matter where your business chooses to sell pottery:

  • Glossy Black (S22)
  • Matte Black (N14)
  • Blue (N8)

  • White (N12)
  • Marble Green (N19)

These colors appeal to the broadest customer base and integrate seamlessly into various garden and interior design schemes. Trendy colors may be tempting, but neutrals minimize risk and ensure steady turnover.

Styles

Regarding styles, smooth simple pot textures have remained the most popular, making them safe options when choosing your order. Being flexible enough to fit into multiple different design styles, their timeless designs allow for businesses to cater to many different audiences with just one type of style. However, regional preferences also allow business to cater to specific market needs, so it’s important to research whether rustic, contemporary, or other types of pottery are popular around your business.

Sizes

Building a good mix of sizes can be tricky for businesses, oftentimes getting stuck with too many of a size or shape due to poor forecasting. However, there are some guidelines that allow businesses to build orders consisting of diverse, fast-selling products.

  • Low bowls like our Drip-glazed Bowl Planters are a safe bet, with wide diameters and low pot heights. They consistently sell well in all markets and are always popular due to their versatility and ease of use
  • Medium height planters are our most popular, pots like our Classic Wide Rim Round Pot where width and height are the same. They go up to 35in diameter and height, and are a staple in many homes and gardens due to their dimensions making them both easy to fit and plant inside space
  • Tall planters are especially popular for entryways, usually reaching up to ~35in tall and ~18-20in wide. Tall, ornamental planters like our Tapered Planters with Circle Texture make excellent statement pieces in homes and businesses, bringing flair to round out any design.
  • Extra large pots like our Tall Amphora Planter sitting over 35in tall, and over 25in wide are often sought out by nurseries/businesses. Although they take up more space and are harder to transport, they are important products any pottery retailer should carry.

Conclusion

Successful pottery merchandising requires matching the right products to your specific market, ordering quantities that balance turnover with MOQ requirements, and timing deliveries to arrive just before your peak selling season begins. Start planning out your order ahead of time and place your order with a buffer to account for any delays in shipping and processing, and you’ll hit the market at the perfect time to account for seasonal gardening rushes.
